6/17/2023 0 Comments Thunderpede school of dragonsThe Seashocker has the most impractical design ever with two heads and torsos the Thunderpede has questionable flying abilities no dragons would actually be able to breathe fire and survive that heat anyhow but all of the dragons’ designs and abilities combined build a beautiful, creative, imagination-invoking universe! The animators, in all their imagination, are not going to restrict themselves merely to the rules we “know” apply to flight physics, but are going to extend beyond to fantastic new dragon designs that fuel our imaginations. You call it magic I call it different rules of the HTTYD universe. ![]() Therefore, when I see the Thunderpede and its new design, outrageous as it is, I don’t blink an eye or question how it flies. There are different rules in this fantasy universe. But the hovering one in HTTYD 2 is the biggie, since it even occurs in the fancy pants movie trilogy.Īfter that HTTYD 2 hovering incident - well, even before it - I’ve taken into acceptance that the dragons of the HTTYD movies don’t operate completely according to the physics of our world. Of course, the television series doesn’t do all that great a job of dragons’ flight being realistic when someone falls and lands on their back, the dragons don’t even drop a bit from the impact. ![]() Yet they do animate Toothless and the Scuttleclaw babies hovering midflight… and that happens many times within the television series, besides. The animators straight out admit that dragons, with their anatomy, could not hover (I believe this is discussed near the end of the HTTYD 2 filmmakers’ commentary). One of the big flight impossibilities that happens in HTTYD is hovering in HTTYD 2. Even if they flap as quickly as a hummingbird, it’s still a little difficult to feasibly imagine them maneuvering in the skies. ![]() As you point out, Gronckles are a little suspect with their five thousand pound bodies and eighteen foot wingspan. In all fairness, the HTTYD animators have been breaking flight physics for years.
